IDFC FIRST Bank Engineering Scholarship: A Big Opportunity for Aspiring Engineers from Modest Backgrounds

In a country like India, where engineering remains one of the most preferred career paths, the high cost of quality education often becomes a major hurdle for meritorious students from financially constrained families. Understanding this reality, IDFC FIRST Bank has been running its Engineering Scholarship Program as part of its CSR initiatives. This need-based scholarship is designed to support bright students who have secured admission in select engineering colleges but find it difficult to manage the fees.

What Does the Scholarship Offer?
The scholarship provides financial assistance of up to ₹1 lakh per year (or the actual annual fee, whichever is lower) for the full four-year duration of a B.Tech or BE programme. This means a selected student can receive support of up to ₹4 lakhs over the course of their degree, subject to terms and conditions. Currently, 230 scholarships are available for the 2026–30 batch. The bank has already supported 318 scholars across 125 colleges through this initiative, showing its growing impact.

Who Can Apply?
The programme is strictly need-based and targets students whose family income is less
than 6 lakhs per annum.

Key eligibility conditions include:

    • The student must be enrolled in the first year of a full-time B.E./B.Tech programme in one
of the select colleges listed by the bank.
    • Diploma courses, dual-degree, part-time, distance learning or exchange programmes are
      not eligible.
    • Only Indian nationals can apply.
    • The student should not be receiving any other scholarship or tuition fee waiver for the
      same course.
    • Children of IDFC FIRST Bank employees are not eligible.

Students must check the official list of eligible colleges (available on the bank’s website) before applying. If a college is not on the list, the application will not be considered.

Important Things to Keep in Mind
Scholars also need to clear their exams every year and submit marksheets to continue receiving the scholarship for subsequent years. The scholarship amount is transferred directly to the college’s bank account and adjusted against the tuition fee – it is not paid into the student’s personal account.

Applicants should be careful while filling the form. Common mistakes that lead to rejection include uploading an expired income certificate, entering the annual fee instead of the total course fee, or not reading the terms and conditions properly.

How to Apply
Applications for the 2026-30 batch are currently open for eligible first-year engineering
students. Interested candidates can apply through the official portal:

Why This Matters
For many students from middle and lower-income families, even a partial fee waiver can make the difference between pursuing their dream course or settling for something else due to financial pressure. By supporting engineering education in this structured way, IDFC FIRST Bank is helping create a more level playing field and enabling talented young Indians to become skilled engineers who can contribute to the nation’s growth.

If you or someone you know has just joined an eligible engineering college and meets the income criteria, this is a good time to check the details and apply. Opportunities like these don’t come every day.
