1. Details about the research program
The research program at IISER Mohali covers a broad range of disciplines within Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

Biology: Structural, Cellular & Molecular Biology, Protein folding & Misfolding, Single Molecule Biology, Nanoscale Biophysics, Immunology, Molecular Medicine, Mitochondrial Biology, Developmental Genetics, Organismal Biology, Evolutionary Biology and Population Ecology
Chemistry: Theoretical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Solid-state NMR Spectroscopy, Inorganic Synthesis, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, X-Ray Crystallography
Physics: Quantum Information Theory, Statistical Mechanics, NMR Methodology & Quantum Computing, Ultrafast Lasers, Nonlinear Dynamics and Low Temperature Nanoscale Systems
Mathematics: Algebra, Operator Algebra, Functional Analysis, Algebraic Geometry, Algebraic Number Theory, Algebraic Topology, Differential Geometry and Computational Number theory
IISER Mohali offers state-of-the-art research facilities and the sophisticated instrumentation currently housed in the Central Analytical Facility building includes two high-field high-resolution NMR spectrometers, two X-ray diffractometers, a laser Raman & Scanning Probe Microscopy setup, with many more experimental setups such as an ultrafast laser setup, confocal microscopes, milliKelvin dilution refrigerator, nano-fabrication facility and a high-performance computing cluster in the pipeline. Existing research infrastructure also includes Real-time PCR, Drosophila lab, Stopped-flow CD & Fluorescence, AFM and a protein expression/purification facility.
IISER Mohali has a modern and well-equipped library with a large collection of books and subscription to all major scientific research journals, e-books, e-journals and bibliographic databases. The computing facility at IISER Mohali is Linux-based with internet facility, wi-fi access and public domain and commercial software for academic and scientific research.
2. Applying to more than one area
Candidates who are interested in pursuing research which is interdisciplinary in nature have the option of applying for more than one discipline from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. The choice of areas and the order of preference has to be indicated in a single application form.
3. Specifics about the doctoral program
The doctoral program at IISER Mohali is enriched by rigorous coursework, intensive research training and a wide variety of research seminars and conferences. Student participation in international meetings and workshops is supported. Students enrolled in the PhD program at IISER Mohali have to meet coursework requirements and pass a comprehensive examination to be eligible to continue with the research program, and are expected to participate in the teaching activities of the institute.
4. About the new campus
IISER Mohali’s new fully residential 125 acre campus is coming up in the Knowledge City at Sector 81 Mohali. This is around 15 Km from the center of Chandigarh city. The Central Analytical Facility building is fully functional and the hostels, academic and administrative blocks are likely to be completed soon.
Eligibility Criteria: Masters in Science/BTech/MBBS with a good academic record and should be GATE/CSIR-NET/JEST/ICMR/ICAR/DBT-JRF qualified. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview at IISER Mohali.
